St. John Vianney School in Kailua hosted its seventh annual “Breakfast with the Bishop” on Sunday, January 29, 2017 in the church’s Parish Hall at 920 Keolu Drive.  A delicious breakfast buffet was served after the 8 am, 10am and noon services as a fund-raiser for its parish school. Again, preparing and serving pancakes were local celebrities, including Fr. Eric Bowman, Auli’i Cravalho from Disney’s “Moana,” Chef Chai Chaowasaree, Miss Hawaii Allison Chu, Frank Delima, Kapi’i DeMello, Rob DeMello, Lisa Kanove, Monsignor Gary Secor and Mihana Sousa.

Over 500 people, including more than 115 children, attended the day’s events.  The Most Reverend Larry Silva, Bishop of Honolulu attended each breakfast and spoke on the value of a Catholic education and the special role of parish schools. Fr. Peter Miti, the parish pastor, and Caryn DeMello, the school principal, greeted everyone and thanked them for their support of the school.  Entertainment included the school’s hula halau, under the direction of Jack McKeaque, and student bands, orchestras and choirs, under the direction of the school’s music teacher Julia Golding, assisted by Jordan Lum and Robert Mondoy.

The goal to raise $45,000 was exceeded, which will be used to continue improving the schools facilities by creating a new Kindergarten building.  Another Breakfast with the Bishop is scheduled for January 2018.
