Overview: The National Catholic Education Association has an Innovation in Catholic Education annual awards program to foster creativity and growth in Catholic schools nationwide. In 2020 Hawaii Catholic Schools will initiate a new award to recognize innovation by our educators. We will use the NCEA ICE awards as a model so that our Hawai‘i innovators can be aspire to the national competition in future years.

NOMINATE AN INDIVUAL OR TEAM HERE

The Ka Hooulu Hawai‘i Catholic Education Innovation Awards focus on ‘Innovation for Mission’. There are several themes that will define this program:

  • Innovation as a call to remain relevant and attractive to our stakeholders, to continue to thrive in a competitive landscape, to best serve our students and to glorify God through our work;
  • An emphasis on capturing and celebrating the current creativity of our educators, as well as fostering new directions and initiatives;
  • A broad focus on innovations inside and outside the classroom;
  • The development of a culture of innovation with constant attention to measurable outcomes and impact;
  • Acknowledging the inspirational role of the Holy Spirit in the work of innovation.

 

Ka Ho‘oulu Innovation Awards

Offered by the Hawai‘i Catholic Schools Office and Chaminade University

Program:     Hawai‘i Catholic Education Innovation Award

Cycle:     Annual

Award Type:   Recognition and celebration of a major innovation that has advanced Catholic education in Hawai‘i

Who is eligible:     Individuals or teams; faculty and administrators/staff; currently employed at a Hawai‘i Catholic School (all grade levels K-12)

What types of project are we looking for:  Projects can fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Exemplifying the Catholic worldview
  • Supporting quality academics
  • Technology integration
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Promoting operational vitality

What do the awards involve:

  • Recognition at an annual award ceremony (mandatory)
  • Cash prize
  • Required presentation at annual Hawai‘i Catholic Education conference

Program:    “Incubating Innovation” Grants

Cycle:    One application deadline annually, up to 2 selected projects per year

Award Type:   Developmental funding for mentored incubation of innovative projects (goals, action plans, measurable outcomes, impact)

Who is eligible:    Individuals or teams; faculty and administrators/staff; currently employed at a Hawai‘i Catholic School (all grade levels K-12)

What types of project are we looking for:   Projects can fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Exemplifying the Catholic worldview
  • Supporting quality academics
  • Technology integration
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Promoting operational vitality

What do the awards involve:

  • Recognition at an annual award ceremony (mandatory)
  • Small cash grant
  • Required presentation at annual Hawai‘i Catholic Education conference
  • Engagement in a tailored mentoring program with Chaminade Office of Strategy and Innovation that includes
    • Support with development and piloting of an innovation initiative;
    • Support with data collection and analysis;
  • Support with submission of an application for the Hawai‘i Catholic Education Innovation Award.
